Group one

Labels that prove themselves

You never type a label. Every label is built from the recipe and the declarations of the exact packs used: ingredients in descending weight order, the 14 UK allergens in bold capitals, bought compound ingredients declared with their sub-ingredients in brackets, your business name and address. Beyond the legally required emphasis, allergens repeat on their own red call-out line.

  • Per-batch supplier selection — at batch time, choose which supplier's pack actually went in; the label rebuilds from that pack's declaration, and you're warned if an alternate's allergens differ from your usual.
  • Blocked, never guessed — a batch is stopped if any ingredient the label derives from has no declaration. It would rather stop than print an uncertain label.
  • Immutable batch snapshots — recording a batch stores exactly what was printed, when, and which pack went into every ingredient. Reprint reprints the snapshot, not a regeneration.
  • Best before or use by — set per product, switchable per batch, so perishables carry the right wording.
  • Your label stock — popular templates seeded on signup, custom sizes, start part-way down a used sheet. Text auto-sizes, and if content genuinely won't fit you're told honestly rather than it being silently clipped.
  • Label archive — 90 days on Starter, 2 years on Standard, unlimited on Pro: the record you hand an inspector.

Group two

Allergen intelligence that doesn't trust itself

The dangerous failure in allergen labelling is silent under-declaration — the milk nobody spotted. ProvenBatch is built against exactly that.

  • Detected, never assumed — saving a declaration flags any of the 14 UK allergens found, always as unverified until you confirm against the pack. The app can point; only you can decide.
  • A second opinion — an independent re-read of every declaration with a different rule set flags allergens mentioned but not recorded, recorded but unsupported, and "contains" that should be "may contain". Nothing is ever applied automatically.
  • Freshness tracking — suppliers reformulate without telling anyone. Declarations nobody has confirmed, or that are older than your review period, are chased until someone checks the pack.
  • An append-only history — every confirmation, verification, removal and edit is recorded with who, when, and the wording at that moment. Nobody can edit or delete it — including the owner. If someone removes a MILK flag, there is a permanent record.
  • The allergen matrix — every product × 14 allergens, unverified entries outlined. Print it for the kitchen wall or export CSV.

Group three

Zero-typing setup and capture

The real barrier to any labelling tool is entering seventy declarations before you can print anything. We removed it.

  • Photograph a pack — snap the ingredients panel; the declaration is read and shown beside what's stored; accepting saves it and records the pack check in one action. The photo is kept as evidence. An unreadable panel is refused, not guessed.
  • Snap a receipt, sort it later — one tap, phone away. It's read in the background and waits in a review list; nothing enters your accounts until you confirm it.
  • Reading that fills the form — shop, date and reference recognised; every line matched to items you already buy across ingredients, packaging, equipment and fees. Crop and re-read a bad photo; photograph a long till roll in overlapping pages and it's read as one receipt.
  • Email receipts in — your own private forwarding address; a supplier's PDF invoice is read straight from your inbox. Sender allowlist; replace the address instantly if it ever leaks.
  • Price-change alerts — a matched line that differs from your stored pack cost is highlighted; one press and every recipe using that ingredient re-costs itself.
  • Recipe import — paste text or photograph a book page. Ingredients are separated from method, fractions and cups converted, sections kept, lines matched for you to check.
  • Installed and offline — add it to your home screen; captures queue on the phone with an honest "saved on this phone only" note and sync when signal returns. Nothing is lost to a failed upload.

Group four

Running the business

  • Live costing — batch and unit costs computed from your current pack prices, never a stale import. A cost built over a missing price is flagged est — and tells you the true figure is higher, so you never price a cake off a hole.
  • Products & margins — sale price, shelf life, storage and date wording per product; unit cost, margin and margin % on one screen.
  • Orders & customers — log orders with due dates and prices, track them to collection, keep customer history. Turn a batch into an order or an order into a batch.
  • Sessions — reusable production plans ("Saturday market") batched again and again; a whole session's labels print in one go, packed onto shared sheets.
  • Shopping list — from a session or batch: scaled, merged, rounded up to whole packs, grouped by supplier with costs.
  • Cash-basis accounts — money in from collected orders, money out from expenses, monthly P&L. Cash basis is HMRC's default for sole traders — the books work the way the taxman expects.
  • Receipt image archive — images stored privately with expenses, 6-year default retention in line with HMRC record-keeping.
  • Data quality — one screen that answers "what is missing, and how much does it matter?", from batch-blocking gaps to quietly-wrong numbers, each finding linking to its fix. It never fixes anything for you, and never ticks a compliance box on your behalf.
  • Users & roles (arriving before launch) — 1 user on Starter, 2 on Standard, 5 with roles on Pro.
  • Stock control and food safety logs (coming after launch, in Pro) — on the roadmap, said plainly rather than pretended.

Group five

Your data, treated like it's yours

  • Held in the UK — database, files and accounts live in the UK.
  • Completely separate — no other business can see your recipes, suppliers or prices. Your recipes are your intellectual property, and we treat them that way.
  • AI, disclosed — pack and receipt photos are read by AI to save you the typing, and we say so plainly here and in the privacy notice — no small print, no pretending it happens on your phone.
  • Export everything (arriving before launch) — self-serve, open format, every table. You can leave with your data.
  • Never held hostage — when a trial or subscription ends, your account becomes a read-only archive. Everything stays visible and exportable.
  • Help built in — the full user guide inside the app, searchable, and available offline.
