What's new in ProvenBatch

The latest improvements, in plain English. The same list is in the app under Settings, then About & feedback.

v0.408.0 · latest

  • Labels can now print in Welsh and English, Welsh first, with allergens bold in both. Turn it on in Settings, then add a Welsh name to each ingredient. If one is missing, the label stays in English and tells you which. Counter allergen cards gain a Welsh line too.
  • New: Scan several packs. Photograph the packs in your cupboard in one sitting, then check each one on the usual pack screen. A pack you already have is offered as Same as before, so nothing is added twice. A running count shows what's added and what you already had. Packs you don't confirm aren't saved.
  • A receipt or online order line now links to a product you already have only when the printed pack size matches. "Caster Sugar 2Kg" no longer attaches itself to your 1kg sugar, so costing and stock stay right.
  • After you save a cash-and-carry or trade invoice, the prompt to photograph the case label now says so on its button too, instead of "Photograph packs".
  • Scanning a cash-and-carry or trade invoice now reads a pack column such as "40 250g" as a case of 40 × 250 g, so the case price is costed per gram and a single 250 g pack is never linked to it. After saving, you're asked to photograph the case label, because the declaration comes from the label.
  • A pack you add by hand now counts as finished only when its declaration and pack size are in. Closing it early tells you what is missing and lets you carry on. The first-label card lists every unfinished pack your recipe uses at once, and Batch finds a product by its recipe's name.
  • Settings now has How you work. The owner can turn a group of tools off so they leave the menu, and Search still finds them. A tool that already holds your data stays visible. Labels, allergens, food safety and everything that feeds a label stay on.
  • New businesses start with the tools that suit their kind of business. Sign-up asks one question, Which of these do you do?, to adjust that. A Today card says what is tucked away, and changing your business type shows the effect before you save. Search still finds every tool, and labels and allergens stay on.
  • The Compare page now lets you view ProvenBatch as any of the fourteen business types. You see the tools switched on for that kind of business, the plan each sits in, and the safety floor every business gets.
  • On the beta sign-up form, typing your hygiene rating (say, 5) into the ID box no longer matches you to a different business. The form now asks for the number at the end of your ratings link, not your rating, and when you give both a link and an ID, we check the link.
  • Printing to a NIIMBOT from an Android phone now works: the label saves to your Downloads, and you open it from there with the NIIMBOT app. Before, the app offered Share, but the NIIMBOT app does not appear in Android's share menu.
  • Accounts can now show your expenses by receipt, one row per purchase with what you paid, so you can tick them off against your bank statement. Search finds a receipt by amount. A receipt opens with its supplier, date, reference and totals at the top, and you can correct those for every line at once.
  • Accounts has a new Download part of your accounts button. Pick a period, choose income, expenses or both, and narrow expenses to one category or tax box. You get the matching lines as a spreadsheet or CSV files, handy when your accountant asks for just one month. The whole-year download is unchanged.
  • On a scanned receipt, tick Personal on any line that wasn't for the business. It stays on the receipt and is left out of your costs. The check under the lines shows how the total splits, removed lines are remembered with the receipt, and Accounts and the accountant pack show a Disallowable total.
  • A few wording fixes from the 21 October release video. A new box no longer says batches are coming — it asks you to save first. Copied listing text now says allergens are in capitals, not bold. The Shopfront card starter uses the logo from Brand style. A box's cost line no longer asks you to link a recipe.
  • Saving a standing order no longer asks if you want to discard changes. Close the customer when you are done; you will only be asked if that customer's own details are still unsaved.
  • A box or bag on a product is cost only. It no longer appears as a missing ingredient on the allergen matrix or when checking whether a batch can print a label.
  • Saving a supplier product with a name you already have no longer fails with a database error. Your existing product is reused, or you're told plainly that you already have it.
  • Choosing an Ingredient is easier on long lists: with eight or more, the drawers show a search box and a tap-friendly list instead of one huge dropdown.
  • A receipt line from one shop is no longer filed under something similar you buy at another shop, because their ingredients can differ. It always becomes that shop's own supplier product. When you already buy something similar elsewhere, you can put the new one under the same ingredient instead.
  • Receipts and typed expenses never file a purchase under another shop's supplier product, even when a save is retried after a half-failed attempt. The "similar product at another shop" note also comes back if you change the Ingredient again, without losing your place in the field.
  • When a receipt line is filled in for you, it can only pick a product you already buy at that shop. A look-alike from another shop is never linked, so each product keeps its own ingredients and allergens.
  • If a pack's declaration, small print or bold wording names an allergen that isn't in your records, Today now says so, names the pack and the allergen, and opens the pack when you tap it. Add the allergen if the pack says so, and check any labels already made from that pack.
  • Re-photographing a pack, or adding a maker's declaration photo, now replaces the earlier photo cleanly instead of failing with a database message. The earlier photo stays in the history.
  • Backend performance.
  • Backend hardening.
  • A supplier product's declaration box now tells you when it contains a "May contain" sentence. The label prints that sentence inside the ingredients list as well as in its own May contain line. The note suggests moving it to Footnote text so it prints once. Your labels are unchanged.
  • When a trade receipt such as Booker prints the goods before VAT and then the VAT, the review screen no longer warns that your lines "don't match" the receipt if the only gap is the VAT printed on it. It now says the receipt matches, with the before-VAT figure and the VAT shown. Any other gap still warns.
  • Backend enhancements.

v0.407.0

  • A product can now have a price per kg. When you print a batch, type each pack's weight and every label carries that pack's weight, the price per kg and its price. Counter cards show the price per kg for food sold loose by weight.
  • Set a product as fresh meat and each batch asks where that meat came from. Beef labels then carry the compulsory lines: a reference code, where the animal was born, reared, slaughtered and cut, with the approval numbers. Full prepacked pork, lamb, goat and poultry carry where it was reared and slaughtered. Labels won't print with a line missing.
  • A batch of meat or fish can carry its "Frozen on" date on the label. A PPDS label now prints the meat % you tick on the recipe, as the law asks for sausages, burgers and pies. Reserved names like pork sausage are checked against their minimum meat content, as a warning.
  • When a maker answers your request for their ingredients, you can now check it in the app before it counts. It lines up what they ticked, what their text says and what you already hold, flags anything that disagrees, and lets you confirm it, decline it, or read their photo to compare. Allergens stay unverified until you verify them.
  • "Add demo data" now leads with the sample that matches your business type, so a farm shop, deli or butcher sees the farm shop first and a bakery or cake shed sees the cake shop first. The other sample is always still there to choose.
  • "Add demo data" now has six sample businesses to choose from: a cake shop, a farm shop, a market stall, street food, a caterer and meal prep. The one that matches your business type comes first, so a caterer sees a caterer's recipes, orders and costs. Every other sample is still there to pick.
  • If you told us what kind of business you run when you asked for a beta place, sign-up now opens with that type already picked. You can change it before you create your business.
  • At a market with no signal, you can still record a food safety check. It is saved on your phone, marked in amber, and sends itself when the signal returns. History and the Inspection pack then show both the phone's time and when it arrived. If a check has waited more than a day, Today reminds you.
  • Save a market-day copy of your allergen matrix and counter-card details to your phone, so you can answer an allergen question at a stall with no signal. It always shows the day it was saved, says so when a declaration has changed since, and is removed when you sign out.
  • Settings → Business has a place for your food hygiene rating and inspection date, and for your insurance certificate. The rating prints on your Inspection pack, and a new Organiser pack gathers your registration, rating, training, insurance and allergen information into one printout for booking a market pitch, saying plainly where anything is missing.
  • A temperature reading can now say which food it was taken from: one of today's batches, a recent product, or any other. Tick Into hot holding or Cooling started to record when. A hot-held reading below 63°C puts a "Use or throw away by" reminder on Today. History, the Inspection pack and the batch show it all.
  • You can now keep the papers a council or event organiser asks for, such as your gas safety certificate, PAT test, public liability insurance and street trading consent. Add each one with the date it needs renewing and a photo. Today reminds you 30 days before a paper lapses, and the Inspection pack prints the list.
  • You can now record your own "may contain" on a product, such as sesame on the same bench. Name the allergen and say why. It shows on labels, counter cards, the allergen matrix and your public allergen menu, and the Inspection pack lists each one with its reason.
  • Working from home? Settings → Business has a new tick box, Keep my address off PPDS labels. With it on, food you pack on site and sell directly prints your business name alone. Full prepacked and distance-selling labels always keep name and address. It is off until you tick it.
  • If you sell online, open a product and press Copy for a listing. You get its ingredients with allergens in capitals, the may contain line, net quantity, storage, nutrition and your business name, ready to paste before the customer buys. It is the same text as the label.
  • Jam, jelly and marmalade labels can now carry the two lines England requires beside the name: fruit per 100 g and total sugar content. Tick the fruit lines on the recipe and record a Brix reading on the batch, and the label works the figures out. If one is missing it won't print and says which. England only.
  • A product can now be marked as sold as chocolate, with a box for its composition statement, such as "cocoa solids 33% minimum". The label prints exactly what you type, and the label step reminds you if the box is empty. Leave it unticked and nothing changes on your labels.
  • A product can now carry reheating instructions, freezing advice (with the WRAP wording to tap) and a Sold defrosted tick. Each prints on its label in its own line, and "defrosted" goes after the name. Leave them empty and nothing changes on your labels.
  • Settings now asks once whether you qualify for the small-producer nutrition exemption, with the test in plain words. If you do not, or a product makes a nutrition or health claim, printing a Full prepacked label with no nutrition panel shows a warning. Printing is never blocked.
  • Each product can now record how its shelf life was decided, such as a lab test or a supplier's specification. The Inspection pack lists every shelf life with that note. Tick vacuum or gas packed and a shelf life over 10 days shows a warning with the Food Standards Agency's guidance.
  • An order can now record whether it is collected or delivered, the service or collection time, the venue or delivery address and the number of guests. They print on the quote, the invoice and a new one-page kitchen sheet, and a delivery with a Use by product reminds you to take a dispatch temperature.
  • An order can now record a deposit and the day you received it. The balance is worked out for you, the invoice shows the deposit and what is still due, Ask for payment asks for the right amount, and Accounts counts the deposit and the balance in the months they were paid.
  • An order can now say how many guests have each allergy or dietary requirement, such as 2 nut-free or 1 coeliac, with a note. It shows on the batch you start from the order and on the kitchen sheet, never on the customer's quote or invoice. Guests' names are not kept.
  • Batch now has Make for a day. Pick a date and see every order due then, plus what you usually make for the counter, totalled by product. One tap starts the batches and the shopping list.
  • A customer who orders the same thing on set days each week can now have a standing order. Pick the days, products and trade prices, and each day's order is created a week ahead for your production list. Each is an ordinary order you can change or delete, and you can skip a day without affecting the rest.
  • A batch can now record the readings that matter for it, such as a jam's temperature and Brix or a chutney's pH. Set a measured limit on a critical control point in your food safety plan, and a reading outside it asks what you did about it. Readings show on the Trace report and in the Inspection pack.
  • If you pack by weight, like jars of jam or bags of sweets, you can record a check-weighing on a batch. Type the weights of the packs you sampled and the app checks their average against the three packers' rules, and records the action you took. Checks stay until you delete them and can go in your Inspection pack.
  • On a supplier product you can now enter the maker's "once opened, use within N days". Press Opened today and the app records it and prints a small label with the opened and use-by dates. On the use-by day, Today lists the pack so it is used or binned.
  • A packaging item can now hold the supplier's declaration of compliance, a PDF or a photo with its date, and the Inspection pack lists which packaging items have one on file and which do not.
  • Reading a receipt, invoice, recipe or menu from a photo or PDF now uses a newer AI reader.
  • Bread maker is now one of the business types you can pick when you set up or in Settings, with its own sample label: a bagged loaf with the flour, its added nutrients, the wheat and the sesame seeds all declared.
  • UK labels no longer print a separate "Allergens:" line under the ingredients. Trading Standards say that line is not allowed when a label lists ingredients. Allergens stay in bold capitals, and the label and information sheet now say "Allergy advice: for allergens, see ingredients in bold". Saved labels reprint as they were.
  • The Print labels drawer now says why a label comes from a batch record: if there is ever an allergen question, a recall or an inspection, it shows exactly what went into these. Two steps show where you are, the button says what happens, and a new batch lets you pick its label size and front design.
  • If you are a beta tester and the first-run guide has waited on the same step for a few days, a short optional question now appears under it: "What's stopping you?" Tap the nearest answer and it reaches the team as feedback, with the step you were on and your app version. "Not now" puts it away for that step.
  • Your printers are now one list for the whole business, in Settings › Labels & printers. Add a printer once and every phone and computer sees it, and each device picks its own label printer and A4 printer. Adding a printer shows the right driver or app for the device you are holding.
  • Every label print now opens one sheet where you choose the printer. It shows only what that printer can do on your device, with one button named for it. Make and label has Print to under the preview, a save button that names its route, and a tidier save bar. Label checks fold away when they pass.
  • Things you do, such as Skip, Late, Put it back, Batch again, Select all and Hide this tip, now look like buttons instead of plain text links. Links are kept for going somewhere.
  • Adding a pack from a photo on a new supplier product no longer asks for the supplier and Ingredient again. What you picked first carries through, and you only check the reading.
  • A supplier product's pack cost now needs its pack size and unit, so the app can work out what a batch costs. If one is missing, the field tells you and the cost isn't saved. Existing packs with a cost but no size appear in Health check.
  • Every money box now shows pounds and pence to the penny, such as £10.79, instead of a long string of decimals. Anything you type or paste with more places is rounded to the penny when you save.
  • Record what you sold on one screen. Pick today or a market weekend, type the number sold for each product, check what's left, and optionally enter card and cash takings to see if they add up. One Save does it all.
  • Today now reminds you when batches from a past day or market have no sales recorded, and Record sales opens the screen on those dates. You can also tell ProvenBot what sold, with takings, and tap Save on the card he puts up. Nothing is recorded until you tap.
  • A pack size now needs its unit, matching your recipes: pieces can't be saved when every recipe uses grams or ml, or the reverse. Mixed lines warn rather than lock the pack. Receipts and Health check offer Add pack size when a cost can't be used yet.
  • The two-step sign-in screen no longer shows the word "null" above the code box when you have one authenticator app.
  • A product can now have its own page: a link to put in an online listing or bio that shows the label's ingredients, allergens and details, and keeps up when the label changes. Open the product and press Create a page link under Selling online. Links last 12 months and can be renewed.
  • You can now read up to 150 receipts a day. A receipt that couldn't be read no longer uses up a read, and the limit message gives the number and says it resets overnight. The day starts at midnight UK time, and more than 10 receipts a minute asks you to slow down.
  • After a receipt adds new supplier products, the pack offer now says Finish later instead of Cancel, because nothing is undone. Today shows how many packs still need a declaration photo, and tapping it starts the walk again.
  • On a receipt, the app now picks an item for you only when the wording is an exact match. If it finds only something similar, it suggests it and asks you to confirm, so a wrong match can't slip a wrong ingredient or allergen into your recipes.
  • On a scanned receipt, a line that needs a look now has a bold "Check this" header saying why, and a count above the lines tells you how many are still waiting.
  • On a scanned receipt, once you choose an item for a line, or confirm the app's suggestion, the warning colour and header go and the line shows a quiet "Checked", so you can see what is left to review.
  • When you review a scanned receipt and remove or set aside a line, the totals check now counts it. It reads, for example, "8 lines kept £30.39 · 2 removed £6.70 · matches receipt £37.09 ✓", and warns only when kept, removed and set-aside lines still don't add up.
  • Merging two supplier products now combines identical shop entries into one, and says how many in the confirm. The ingredient drawer shows each allergen once instead of repeating it for every shop entry, and a pack still waiting for its declaration no longer appears in the batch pack picker beside a real one.
  • The compliance log now records every change to which shop a product is bought from, its pack size, its declaration and its allergens, with the old and new values side by side, however the change was made. Your history and inspection pack show them.
  • A receipt line no longer overwrites what a supplier product has learned when it names a different pack size or variant. You see a note under the line and can choose to use the new wording.
  • Saving a receipt no longer adds an empty second pack to a product that already has its ingredients list, no longer creates the same product twice, and closing the New pack drawer without saving leaves nothing behind.
  • A new supplier product made from a receipt line now starts with a tidied name, such as Lotus 720g Smooth, and a name the app is unsure of says Check the name. The exact receipt wording is still remembered.
  • When ProvenBot reads the same item on several lines at the same price, they now arrive as one line with a quantity.
  • A new supplier product made from a receipt line now asks which ingredient it belongs to. It picks one for you only when the name matches exactly.
  • A receipt line such as "ESS DOUBLE CREAM 300ML" now asks "Did you mean Double Cream?" when you already buy that product at another shop, instead of quietly becoming a second product. Shop codes and till abbreviations are read through first. Choose "Add as a [shop] pack" or "New product". It never chooses for you.
  • When a receipt line might be a product you already buy elsewhere, the app now also reads the wording other shops print for it, so "ASDA CORNFLOUR 500G" finds the Cornflour you learned from Tesco. A different pack size is still offered, with a note. It only suggests; you choose.
  • When you scan a receipt, lines that aren't ingredients, like washing-up liquid or baking paper, are now filed under Packaging, Equipment or Other instead of being offered as new supplier products. Lines that look like your own shopping are tagged Personal and recorded as personal use. You can change either.
  • Today shows Finish setting up: N products, one list of the supplier products that need a declaration photo, an Ingredient or a pack size, each with its next step. Tap one to do that step. Search has an Unfinished filter, and an unfinished product is no longer offered as a recipe line's or label's pack when a finished one exists.
  • A new Tidy up button on Supplier products groups likely duplicates, so you can merge them after a preview or mark them as not duplicates. It also archives supplier products you never used, in one go, with Undo. Packs of different sizes, such as 320g and 475g, are no longer suggested as duplicates.
  • You can now set a product up as a box or selection made of your other products, such as a truffle box. List what goes in it with a count or a weight, and give the box its own net weight. Labels and batches for boxes are coming.
  • A box or selection now gets its label worked out from the products inside it: every product's allergens together, one assorted ingredients list naming each product with its own ingredients, and the box's own net weight. It appears on your allergen matrix too, and updates when a product inside changes.
  • You can now record a batch of a box or selection. It asks which batch of each product went in, with the latest already picked, then prints the box's label and keeps a trace. A batch that went into a box now lists the boxes it went into on its trace report.
  • A receipt line such as Medium Eggs 12 is no longer matched to Large Eggs 12. Names that differ in a size or quality word, such as large, medium, small, organic or free-range, are left for you to check.
  • Behind the scenes, the independent security review of a change is now recorded automatically once it has passed, so risky changes are checked the same way every time. Nothing changes in the app.
  • Each shopping list line now says which recipes it is for, for example "For: Brownies, Scones", with "+2 more" when there are over two. Tap a recipe, or the supplier product name, to open it on top of the list and check the pack, price and declaration. Closing it returns you to the same line.
  • ProvenBot now recognises Bread maker as a business type, so when you tell it you make bread it puts Bread maker on the confirm card rather than your own words.
  • Beta testers no longer receive any automatic lifecycle email, including the "days left" and "now read-only" notices.
  • The beta request page no longer quotes planned monthly prices. Pricing is on the pricing page.
  • After you save an order that is ready to invoice, a "Get invoice" card now appears on Orders, once. The button reads "Download invoice (PDF)" and the print window reminds you to choose Save as PDF. On a phone it stays on the order. Your first invoice can ask for your business address, or you can skip it.
  • The empty Orders screen now says you can download an invoice once you have an order. Buttons that give you a file now say Download, such as Download CSV and Download for your accountant.
  • Long lists of suppliers are now searchable, the same way brands already are. Recent and most-used names sit at the top, and the app asks before you add a name that already exists under a slightly different spelling. Short lists stay a simple dropdown.
  • Behind-the-scenes testing change: the staging sign-in check now accepts automated test sign-ins. Nothing changes on the live app.
  • Choosing a brand is now quicker. Once you have eight or more, type to search them; the ones you use most and most recently come first. Spelling and capital letters don't matter, and if you type a brand that is nearly one you already have, you are asked whether to use that one instead.
  • The supplier dropdown on the pack-capture screen and on each supplier row in the supplier product editor now searches long lists, like the other supplier pickers. Recent suppliers come first, and the app asks before adding a name that already exists with a different spelling ("aldi" vs "Aldi"). Short lists stay a simple dropdown.
  • ProvenBot now recognises Bread maker as one of the business types, so it can fill that in on the details card like any other type.
  • Checking what you bought now keeps each answer as you make it, so leaving and coming back does not lose your ticks. Every row has Add the pack I bought, already linked to that ingredient, and Check your packs warns before creating an ingredient that looks like one you already have.
  • A pack photo you come back to later now shows the same reminder to check the pack for "may contain" wording before you accept it, so a precautionary allergen is not missed on a second visit.
  • When you scan a pack photo, the confirm screen now reminds you to check the pack for "may contain" wording and add it on Allergens, so a precautionary allergen is not missed.
  • The pack reader now picks up "may contain" wording, allergy advice and "Contains" lines, even in a separate box. Check them against the photo, edit them, or say the pack has none before you confirm; the allergens they name are added as contains or may-contain for you to verify.
  • Allergens and warnings in a pack's small print, such as "Contains Sulphites" or "may contain Nuts", are now added for you when you save or accept a photo reading, marked "Added from the pack's small print" for you to check. You can remove one, and it stays removed. Editing only the small print keeps the pack check.
  • Packs you photographed before can now be read again. Required small print, such as "Contains Sulphites", is added for you and marked "Added from the pack's small print". Anything else found, like different "may contain" wording, waits in Check your packs beside the photo for you to use, edit or reject.
  • In a product's May contain section, the Add button now stays in the background until you choose an allergen or write a reason, so Save stays the one main button in the drawer.
  • On a finished batch you can now reprint just the products you tick, each with its own count, in one print job. A label that is out of date still will not print — that product is named so you can rebuild it first.
  • If a pack's allergens, a statement or a declaration changes, labels already made with it are now flagged on Today and in the batch, and won't reprint until you rebuild them. Counter cards and allergen sheets tell you when a label on your stock is out of date.
  • Colour warnings, aspartame and sweetener statements now go on a label automatically whenever the ingredient is present, with no question to answer. You can still remove one on purpose, and it is logged. Caffeine, polyols and liquorice questions must be answered before a label will print.
  • The allergen scanner now recognises malt (including malt extract and malted flour), khorasan, einkorn and emmer wheat, and mackerel, trout, sardine, pollock, hake and plaice. They are emphasised on labels and declared under Contains, and anything newly found on a saved pack arrives unverified for you to confirm.
  • The colour warning now spots Sunset Yellow and Allura Red when a pack names them without "FCF" or "AC", and E numbers written as "E 122" or "E-122". Declarations that say frozen, or packed in a protective or modified atmosphere, now raise the matching statement question.
  • When you check a pack photo, the app now warns you if the pack prints an allergen in bold or capitals, such as MILK, and nothing is recorded for that allergen on the supplier product. Add it before you rely on that product.
  • If you swap in a different pack for a batch, the allergen matrix, your counter cards and your online allergen menu now include any allergen that pack adds, so loose food never shows less than the batch label. The matrix and the counter card also say which pack changed what, so you can check the batch label agrees.
  • If the pack reader had to cut off part of a very long ingredients list, footnote or allergen list, it now tells you: "Part of this pack's text was cut off. Check it by hand." You can't confirm that reading against the pack until you've checked the wording yourself.
  • A label now stops, with a clear reason, if a pack's small print names an unrecorded allergen or "may contain", if a bold or capitalised allergen has no row, if a warning is undecided, or if the product has no name. Unanswered caffeine, polyols or liquorice questions also stop it. Unverified allergen rows still only warn.
  • If a supplier product is something you make yourself, such as a caramel or a jam, you can now link it to its recipe. Labels then list the recipe's own ingredients and allergens, and follow the recipe when you change it. Health check flags typed allergens that disagree with the recipe.
  • A large print now goes in parts: about 50 labels at a time on a roll, or about 5 sheets on A4, with a Print now step between parts. If you stop, remaining parts can be printed from the batch while that screen is still open.
  • Printer setup now lists your own roll sizes that fit a MUNBYN, NIIMBOT or Brother, marked "Your label". Rolls too wide for the printer are greyed out, and "Add a custom size" sets up a new roll without leaving setup.
  • You can now apply a label layout to many products at once from the Label designer. It ticks the products with no layout, shows how many fit before you save, and asks before replacing any. Make a layout your house layout and every product without its own prints it.
  • The label library now includes Betckey thermal rolls sold on Amazon UK, including sizes compatible with Brother QL printers. Continuous rolls cut at a length that can carry a label; smaller sizes are marked small packs only.
  • ProvenBot has a new look: a soft caramel character whose shape and face change with what he is doing. At rest he breathes and blinks, he hops once when a read comes out well, and he goes completely still when something needs you. Reduced motion keeps his expressions without the movement.
  • Settings › Appearance has a new Motion setting: Same as my device, Reduced or Full. Reduced keeps every confirmation, so a button still changes colour and a panel still fades in, but nothing slides, scales or bounces. Full keeps the movement even if your device asks for less. It is saved on each device.
  • Buttons now give a little when pressed, and Save shows "Saving…" then a green "Saved". If something is missing, a box at the top of the form lists each problem and takes you to the field. If a save fails, a red box with Try again stays at the top, and nothing you typed is lost.
  • Deleting an ingredient, supplier product, product or recipe usually no longer asks first: it goes at once and the message offers Undo, which stays until you use it or dismiss it and puts the row back where it was. Drawers, dialogs and messages now arrive and leave gently. Deleting a batch still asks, and now names the batch.
  • The app now shows you where you've gone. Screens fade from one to the next, a recipe's name moves into the panel you open, batch steps and tabs slide to your choice, and new recipe lines make room. Back on a list, the row you opened lights up, and a long list keeps its name in view.
  • A recorded batch gets a RECORDED stamp, and a month of checks in a row gets a cheer. Receipt reading shows its real steps. ProvenBot greets you when you name your business, points the way on an empty list, waits in an empty chat, and taps the top bar when a background read finishes. Allergen numbers never move.
  • Deleting a batch no longer asks first: it goes at once, its ingredients go back on stock, and the message names the batch and offers Undo until you use or dismiss it. Undo brings back the batch, its label record and to-dos, and takes the stock again. A deleted batch is kept as your record but left off your lists.
  • Brother TD-2 label printers (TD-2120N and TD-2350D) can now be set up, with Brother's 58 mm continuous and 51 × 26 mm rolls and other 2 inch rolls. On a Chromebook or an Android tablet the printing steps now match the device. A label too long for the small roll tells you to use the 58 mm one.
  • A Brother TD-2120N can print over its USB cable from a Chromebook or an Android tablet, with nothing to install. We are switching it on one business at a time. Labels print one at a time, and if the printer stops, you see how many came out and can carry on.
  • On a one-colour label printer using the print window, the allergen line now prints solid black instead of a faint grey, so it is as clear as the rest of the label.
  • Import your products straight from your till's item library export (Square is recognised). Prices, categories and sizes come across, and a list shows what to check first: allergen tags that don't name the cereal or nut, seeds with no sesame, and products with no allergen information. Nothing is declared from your till's tags.
  • If you bake in one kitchen and send stock to several shops and markets, you can now share the day's production between them. Each shop gets a delivery note with batch codes and its own labels, and the Trace report shows where a batch went. Choose per product whether it is packed centrally or in the shop.
  • Products can now say which days they are sold, and an order for one on another day is flagged, not lost. Recipes can list prep that starts before the bake, such as a levain, and Make for a day shows what to start today. There is also a week view and a printable bake sheet.
  • Allergen words and library products that the Proven Batch team has retired are no longer used when you scan a declaration or look up a product.
  • Each product now has a usual label size, so jars, trays and rolls each start their batches on the right labels. A new Labels section on the product shows its size and its front label, PPDS label and information sheet templates, with a picture of each and a clear note when a size still needs a layout.
  • The Label designer is now Templates. Design a template once and give it a layout for each label size you print on. Adding a size lays it out for you, a size your products use without a layout is flagged, and the fit check names any product whose label won't fit, with a one-tap fix.
  • With print templates, each product's labels print on its usual size using its template's layout for that size. A print across several sizes is grouped by size, each to its own printer. A product whose template has no layout for its size is flagged, with one-tap fixes, before anything prints. You can pick one template for a single print.
  • Set your logo, up to three colours and a font pair once, and every template follows them, so your labels, counter cards and invoices match. Colours can be picked straight from your logo, and you see a label, a card and an invoice in the new style before you save. Allergen and ingredient text always prints as it is.
  • Counter and stall cards can now carry your own design: your colour, logo and name across the top, a strapline at the foot. Choose Plain, Banner or Shopfront, then change it. The allergens on every card still come from each recipe and print exactly as before. Invoice and quote designs have moved to Templates too.
  • When the printer you choose can't take the size a front label was designed for, that front label is now left out and the print screen says which one. It used to print a second copy of the ingredients label in its place.
  • After you save a receipt, the app now offers to photograph the packs for any ingredient lines that have no supplier product yet, while the packs are still in your hand. Each photo picks an existing product or creates one, and the receipt line is linked to it so its price reaches costing.
  • Photographing a pack now offers a second shot of the front or barcode whenever no barcode was read. When a barcode matches a pack whose declaration you've confirmed, the app asks "Same as before?", and Yes records nothing new. A barcode only identifies the pack: it never fills in a declaration or an allergen.
  • Receipt lines for multipacks, such as "8 X 26.1g", are now read as the whole box rather than a single bar, so pack sizes and costs per gram come out right.
  • A team member can now merge two supplier products, or two duplicate shops, when the entry being combined has a confirmed declaration. The confirmation is not carried across, because only the account owner can confirm a declaration, so the owner confirms the kept entry again. When the owner merges, the confirmation carries across as before.
  • The beta sign-up form now makes clear that any one proof you trade is enough, so a sole trader without a Companies House number is not put off. Every proof box is marked optional, and typing "N/A" or "none" into one is treated as leaving it blank.
  • We now email the owner about 30 days before a product page link stops working. One email lists every link that needs renewing and the date each one stops, rather than one email per product. Renew keeps the same link, so nothing you have posted needs changing.
  • Four small fixes. Answering "same product" on a scanned receipt line now clears its warning. The food safety diary's By check view no longer marks days before you started keeping records as missed. The reprint drawer's wording now suits any food business. Spreadsheet imports now accept "g" and "each" as units.
  • Confirming an allergen from an Ingredient's supplier products now turns its chip green straight away. Before, the confirmation was saved but the chip stayed amber until you reopened the Ingredient.
  • Backend enhancements.

v0.406.0

  • You can now ask a local maker for their ingredients and allergens. Press Ask the maker on a supplier product, then send the link it gives you by WhatsApp, text or email. The maker answers with no account, and every request shows in a new Declarations list: waiting, answered, confirmed or expired.
  • A business opened with an invitation code we issued for a business we have already verified now starts verified, so it never gets the verification deadline.
  • When the main receipt reader can't be reached, the phone's own reader no longer turns a pack size printed after a price, such as "12 PACK", into an extra item, and skips German total, tax and payment lines instead of listing them as items.
  • Internal change to how landings are approved; nothing in the app changes.
  • There are more kinds of business to choose from: home baker, cake shed, confectioner, and market stall and street food as two separate choices. The list is the same in the app, on the beta form and when you tell ProvenBot about your business.
  • Your starter food safety checks now fit your type of business. A market stall gets cool box and stall set-up checks, a street food van gets cooking and hot-holding checks, a butcher gets raw and ready-to-eat checks, all sorted into matching areas. They sit on top of your nation's pack, and every one can be edited.
  • A new product now starts on the date and label format that suit your type of business: Use by for a butcher, caterer, deli, street food or meal prep business, Best before for most others. Change the starting point for your whole business in Settings, or change it on any product.
  • Words that named a counter or a member of staff now follow your type of business: a stall, a van or a shed says "ask us" and gets cards named for it, and Today points to the part of the guide that fits. A business still on "Market stall / street food" is asked to pick one of the two.
  • Trading somewhere with no signal? Food safety's More menu now prints a record sheet for any day: your own checks for that day, with boxes for the time, your initials and what you did about a problem, and temperatures as a grid. Fill it in by hand, then enter it afterwards with Record late.
  • A product packed on site can now carry a net quantity, like 150g on a bag of fudge. Fill it in and the label prints it under the name; leave it empty and nothing changes. Most food packed in advance needs one under weights and measures rules; the product page says which foods usually don't.
  • New: counter cards and stall cards can show each item's price. Tick Include the price and the card prints your Sale price each in bold under the item's name, beside the same allergen information as before. An item with no sale price prints without one.
  • In the label designer, the choice you make in a dialog is now the one that is saved. Banner, Stamp, Left or Start from blank gives you that front label instead of Centred, your PPDS Label type is the one used, and the information sheet size you tick is the size you get.
  • The label designer's rulers now run beside your label instead of over its left edge, so every line reads from its first letter. Fit makes the label as big as your screen allows, the label sits on a darker workspace with a clear cut line, and roll labels show which edge prints first.
  • Round labels now look round in the label designer. The canvas shows the circle your sticker is cut to, shades what will be cut off, and names anything that crosses the edge. Starting designs and PPDS layouts fit inside the circle, each design pairs its typefaces deliberately, and the Round 45 mm sheet now fits A4.
  • The label designer is tidier: one row across the top with a label type button and an always-ready Save, and a column of labelled tools that starts with Field, so labels fill themselves in from the product. Add a field shows what each field would print, and new items land in empty space, not on your name.
  • The label designer's side panel is tidier: text, position and arrange settings each have their own group, with italic, line spacing, outlines, rounded corners, Duplicate and align to the label added. Undo now undoes your last real change, including typing, and the keyboard stays where you left it.
  • On a phone, the label designer now has the whole screen. The label fills it, with your tools in a bar at the bottom: Add, Fields, Layers, Test print and More. Tap an item and a small panel shows its everyday settings while the item stays in view. Pinch to zoom, move two fingers to look around.
  • Starting a label asks for the label size first, picking the one your printer uses, then shows each starting point drawn on that size's real shape. The button says what you'll get, such as "Use Banner on Round 45 mm". The Label designer shows every product's labels as pictures, and each label you ask for opens its own flow.
  • Print a test now shows a preview first: the label on its sheet or roll, the position it will print in (tap another to start further down a part-used sheet), how it will print, and a note when round stock is cut to the circle. Front labels now reach NIIMBOT and other app-only printers as an image.
  • Front labels can now shrink text to fit its box, so one design works for a short product name and a long one. Required information never goes below the legal minimum size. If the words still don't fit, the designer and the batch's Labels step say so before you print.
  • In the label designer you can now Shift-click several things to line them up, space them evenly or move them together, copy and paste with the usual keys, and lock something so it can't be dragged by accident. Double-click text, or press Enter, to type straight onto the label.
  • Front labels can now carry a barcode for selling through a shop's till. Give the product its EAN-13, UPC-A or EAN-8 number and ProvenBatch checks it, then draws the bars black on white, never too small to scan, and warns when they are too thin for your printer.
  • On a batch's Make & label and shopping screens, each product's "Make & label →" and Remove buttons now sit together as a neat, equal-width pair. The arrow no longer wraps onto a line of its own, Remove is the same size as the button above it, and on a phone both buttons are full size.
  • New: Allergens has one Print or share button. Choose one table for every item or a card for each item, then the allergen sheet, your online menu's QR sign, counter cards or stall cards, and see the first page before you print. Every option reads the same records, so they always agree.
  • New: print a Stall board from Allergens, Print or share. One portrait sheet, A4 or A3, carries your name, "Ask us about allergens", your online menu's QR code and every item against the 14 allergens in larger type, ready for a table stand, clear pocket or gazebo leg. It always says what your allergen sheet says.
  • New: print your allergen cards as Stall cards, four to an A4 sheet with larger type, to fit an A6 stand, peg clip or laminating pouch. They say the same as your counter cards, invite customers to ask, and carry a small QR code to your online allergen menu when it is switched on.
  • Your public allergen menu is quicker to read. On a phone, each item now shows what it contains and may contain first, with the rest listed on one line as not declared. Customers can pick an allergen to see only the items that need a closer look, and the full grid fits a laptop screen.
  • Design a label once and use it on several products: "Use on other products…" points them at the same design, and each prints its own name, dates and details. A PPDS label layout is only offered where the product's declaration fits it. Editing a shared design shows how many products it changes; "Make a copy" gives one product its own.
  • If you print with a small NIIMBOT handheld (D11, D110 or D101), the label library now has the narrow rolls NIIMBOT sells for them, from 22 × 12 mm to 50 × 15 mm. A full ingredients declaration rarely fits that small, and the fit check says so.
  • In the label designer, a front-label field with nothing to print for the product you are previewing, such as a missing net quantity, now shows as a dashed box with its name. Layers says "(empty for this product)". You can move it, and it never prints.
  • A temperature check with only a minimum or only a maximum now says so plainly: "63°C or above" for food kept hot, "8°C or below" for a fridge. The check editor explains which box to fill in.
  • A food-safety check can now be recorded more than once a day. Switch on "Can be recorded more than once a day" for checks like hot holding or probing cooked food, then press Record another each time. Every reading keeps its own time, result and corrective action, and shows in History, the Diary and your Inspection pack.
  • The Recipe screen no longer tells you a PPDS product never needs a percentage. A meat product sold PPDS, such as sausages, burgers or pies, must show its meat %. Until the label prints it, the app tells you to show it on a ticket or notice where customers choose the food.
  • When a recipe uses one of the six colours that need the children's-activity warning, the label now names the colour in the warning, for example "Allura Red (E129): may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children". Each colour in the recipe is named.
  • A Use by food with no storage instructions no longer gets "Store in an airtight container" on its label. The batch screen warns that it needs its real storage conditions and offers "Keep refrigerated" in one tap. Best before foods are unchanged.
  • The Nutrition panel hint on a product now matches its label format. Food packed where it's sold (PPDS) doesn't need nutrition; full prepacked or distance-selling food does, unless your business is small enough for the exemption, and any nutrition or health claim removes it.
  • New: choose Self-service wording when you print allergen cards or the notice, for a shed, honesty box or stall with nobody to ask. Nothing tells the customer to ask staff; with a phone number in Settings, it says "If in doubt, call us on ... before you eat it". Your usual wording is unchanged unless you tick it.
  • New: give customers their allergen information with the order. From an order, print an allergen sheet of its products, open buffet cards ticked with just those products, or put each item's allergens on the quote or invoice. A customer's page prints a sheet for everything they order. It always says what your allergen matrix says.
  • If you sell a raw-milk cheese, or use one in something you make, the app now spots it in the ingredient's declaration and asks whether "made with raw milk" applies. Once you accept it, the words print after the ingredients on the label and on the item's counter or stall card.
  • If a product's name uses a word the law reserves, such as jam, marmalade, milk chocolate or sausage, a short note now appears under the name with a link to what the rules are. It is advice only and never stops you saving.
  • The claims reminder in the label designer now also flags "high protein", "protein", "low calorie", "low carb", "light" and "reduced", with a short note on what you would need to show. It now checks the product's name as well as typed text, so "High protein chicken bowl" gets the reminder too.
  • If a product's name or label says "high protein", "source of protein", "low fat", "low sugars" or "low calorie", ProvenBatch now checks it against the nutrition it works out, and shows the numbers. A product making one of these claims prints the full nutrition table, as the law requires.
  • Start one batch from several orders for the same product. The quantity is the sum of those order lines, and each line is linked so a trace report lists every customer. One order on its own still starts as it always did. You can also add the open orders due in a date range.
  • A deli or farm shop now starts from the food safety pack written for shops. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland that is Safer Food, Better Business for retailers; in Scotland it is RetailSafe. Your own checks still sit on top, and you can edit or delete any of them.
  • Settings → Business has a new optional Approval number for businesses approved (not just registered) to supply products of animal origin to other businesses. It prints in the Inspection pack header; leave it blank and nothing is printed.
  • The Safer Food, Better Business starter checks now include probe-thermometer calibration every four weeks: record the reading in iced water and in boiling water, and the app flags either one that falls outside its range so you know to fix or replace the probe.
  • From 13 December 2026, UK wheat flour has folic acid added. If you buy flour, Today now shows a quiet note from 1 November: when your next sack arrives, check its declaration and rescan the pack. Flour you already have can still be used up, and nothing is flagged or changed for you.
  • The label preview on a batch's Make & label step now shows your business name and address straight away, instead of only after you left the tab and came back.
  • Settings now has its own Labels section, straight after Business, with your label types, your label designs and this device's label printer in one place, so you no longer hunt between Business and User to set up labels.
  • If a product has been deleted while you were still editing its packaging, ProvenBatch now tells you the product no longer exists and takes you to your Products list, instead of leaving you on a broken screen.
  • The getting-started guide on Today now ends at your own first result. A market stall finishes when its allergen menu is live with a QR code, and a farm shop is pointed at batching something it makes on site first.
  • Saving a recipe, product, supplier or ingredient now keeps its drawer open on what you saved, with a clear Saved line, so you can check it or keep editing and close it when you are ready.
  • Label printer setup now names Brother, MUNBYN and NIIMBOT and their models. Each print goes the way that printer works on the device you're holding, so a NIIMBOT test frame becomes an image for the NIIMBOT app instead of a print window, and a share you close without sending leaves the batch recorded but not printed.
  • Recipes, allergen sheets, counter cards, the inspection pack, HACCP plans, trace reports, invoices and quotes now print the same way. On a device set up with a label printer, an A4 print reminds you to choose your A4 printer or save a PDF, so a page never goes to a label roll. Tick "Don't show this again" to stop it.
  • Backend enhancements.

v0.405.0

  • If you're VAT registered, set a VAT rate on each product and your margins, batch profits and Accounts income now leave the VAT out, with a new VAT charged figure; takings take their VAT from your till report. Invoices become numbered VAT invoices showing your VAT number. Prices stay what customers pay. Not registered? Nothing changes.
  • The first time you print on a device, ProvenBatch now asks how you print labels. A4 sticker sheets stay the default. If you use a label printer, set its labels once, print a test frame, and change it later in Settings. Printers that only work through their own app now get the label as an image when you print.
  • You can now add two-step sign-in to your account: a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone, asked for after your password or Google sign-in. Owners can require it for everyone in the business, see who has set it up, and reset someone who loses their phone. Find it in Settings → Security.
  • Signing out now clears ProvenBot's conversation and any cards waiting for you, so the next person to sign in on the same device starts with a fresh one. Settings → Business also fits a phone screen again, without scrolling sideways.
  • ProvenBot now uses a newer, faster model for everyday questions. If he declines to answer something, he now says so plainly and asks you to start a new conversation, instead of leaving a half-finished reply in the thread.
  • ProvenBot now answers food law, labelling and allergen questions with a newer version of the assistant behind him. His answers held up just as well in our testing, and they can take a few seconds longer to start appearing.
  • ProvenBatch checks that every beta account belongs to a real food business. If yours isn't verified yet, we email you, and Today shows the date to verify by and the days left. If it isn't verified in 7 days, the account is archived: your data stays and can be exported. Verifying brings it straight back.
  • When a label is too small for its text, "Choose a larger label" now takes you straight to the label type picker, and "Show me" under the Save button always shows you the box that explains the problem, including when the label would fit a small pack.
  • When ProvenBot needs to look something up to answer a question about allergens, labelling or food safety, the answer it writes afterwards now comes from the same careful model as the question, not the everyday one.
  • Example text across the app now suits any small food business. Placeholders, hints, the document designer preview and the spreadsheet import templates use a chutney, sausage rolls and local honey instead of cakes and sourdough, and the templates still import cleanly.
  • Products you buy in and sell under their maker's own label can now be marked that way. They stay on your allergen matrix, allergen menu and food alerts, never ask you to batch or print, and don't count towards Starter's product limit. Set up a whole shelf at once from Check your packs or a spreadsheet.
  • For a recall, a batch's Trace report now prints one page: the supplier lots that went in and the customers it went to. An order line can say which batch it came from. The Inspection pack can include traceability for the period too. It's all optional: leave a line unlinked and nothing changes.
  • You can now record the lot or reference code printed on what arrives, at + Stock in and on each line of a delivery note. When you make a batch, pick the lot each ingredient came from, so a recall can be traced back to the delivery. It's optional everywhere: leave it blank and nothing changes.
  • Selling food loose? Allergens now prints counter cards: pick your items and get a small card for each, eight to a sheet, showing what it contains in bold, what it may contain and when it was last checked. You can add an "Ask us about allergens" notice, with your allergen menu's QR code when it is live.
  • Food safety has a new Training tab: record who holds which course, when they passed it and when the refresher is due, with an optional certificate photo. A refresher coming up in the next 30 days shows on Today, and the register prints in your Inspection pack. Edits keep the earlier version.
  • You can now give a food safety check an Area, such as Kitchen, Butchery or Café. Once any check has one, Today's checks and the Diary let you show one area at a time, and the opening and closing runs follow it. With no areas set, nothing looks different.
  • You can now pause a product that is out of season, such as Christmas puddings in July. A paused product drops out of the batch list, the allergen matrix and your public allergen menu, but stays in Products with its recipe, labels and history. Untick Paused and it comes straight back.
  • Adding demo data now asks which sample to load: a cake shop, or a farm shop with sausage rolls, Scotch eggs, its own chutney and local honey sold as it comes. Pick the one closest to your business; removing it works exactly as before.
  • If you're VAT registered, Accounts now leaves the VAT on your receipts out of your expenses, because you can reclaim it, so your profit matches how your income is already counted. The VAT paid figure is called VAT reclaimable, and the accountant export shows each expense without its VAT. Nothing changes if you're not registered.
  • The allergen check now recognises sulphite preservatives by name. Sodium metabisulphite, potassium metabisulphite and sodium bisulphite are flagged as sulphites even when the pack does not write "(Sulphites)" after them, which is common on sausages and dried fruit.
  • Every product now needs a category. The product form, the guided product walkthrough and the recipe walkthrough's new product used to offer "No category yet", and saving with it failed. Pick one of your categories, or create one in the same picker. A product import row with no category is flagged in the preview.
  • When the main receipt reader can't be reached, the phone's own reader now reads an amount like £1,234.56 in full instead of as £234.56. An amount it can't read whole, such as one of £10,000 or more, is left blank for you to fill in, never guessed.
  • If your business turns on two-step sign-in while someone is already signed in, any change they make before entering their code is no longer shown as saved. The app tells them it wasn't saved and asks for their code, so nothing goes missing without them knowing.
  • Setting up products from a menu now shows a Category on each draft, starting on the menu heading the item sits under. An item with no heading above it used to fail when accepted; it now asks you to choose a category first, and Accept all leaves it on screen until you do.
  • If you're VAT registered and part of an expense is personal use, the VAT reclaimable figure in Accounts now says how much of its VAT is on personal use, which you can't reclaim, so you know what really comes back.
  • When the main receipt reader can't be reached, the phone's own reader now leaves out a refund line such as -£1.00 instead of adding it as a purchase, and never takes a date or till time on an item line as its price; an amount that could be a time is left blank.
  • When the main receipt reader can't be reached, the phone's own reader now keeps a dated item it couldn't find a price for as a blank line to fill in, and reads a second item printed on the same line as the one before it.
  • ProvenBot no longer refuses to answer people whose account is not yet linked to a business, and AI scans from those accounts are counted properly again.
  • Backend enhancements.
