Labelled right before market day

If you pack food at home or in a unit and sell it from a stall, it is prepacked for direct sale: the GOV.UK guidance for mobile sellers says so in as many words. Every pack needs its name and a full ingredients list with the 14 allergens emphasised. Loose food needs no pack label, but the allergen information still has to be there when a customer asks, at a pitch with no back office and often no signal.

What the law asks of a market stall

And how ProvenBatch helps you meet each one.

Food packed before market day is PPDS for mobile sellers.

On every plan

Print on A4 sticker sheets at home, or on a label printer from your phone. Each label is built from the batch: the recipe, the packs, a date and a batch code.

Loose food needs allergen cards on the table.

On every plan

Tick what you sell loose and print allergen cards, eight to an A4 sheet, with an “Ask us about allergens” notice. The printed card still works when a customer’s phone has no signal.

A batch code on the pack traces to the night-before record.

On every plan

Each batch keeps what was printed, when, and from which packs. FSA allergy alerts and recalls are matched against the supplier products you buy.

A price belongs on the card next to the pack.

On every plan

Stall cards carry the price you set, printed with the allergen information, ready for the table.

The regulator's own guidance: GOV.UK: PPDS allergen labelling for mobile sellers and street food vendors.

Questions

What can I do at the stall if there is no signal?

Print the labels and the allergen cards at home the night before. The cards and the packs are what the customer reads. Recording a new batch needs a connection, so finish that before you go.

Can I change my business type later?

Yes. Settings holds the type, and you can change it. The tools you already use stay visible; anything newly relevant is offered, and you choose what to switch on.

Does ProvenBatch make my labels legally compliant?

No software can promise that, and you should be wary of any that does. Legal responsibility for a food label always rests with the food business operator: you. What ProvenBatch does is make it much harder to get wrong: labels are derived from your real data, uncertain batches are blocked rather than guessed, and everything is recorded so you can prove what you did.
