The honesty box still needs a proper label

A slice wrapped in the shed is prepacked for direct sale, whether you are standing there or the customer leaves money in a tin. Every pack needs its name and a full ingredients list with the 14 allergens emphasised. Allergen information has to sit in the eyeline when there is nobody to ask, and the Price Marking Order still wants a price on or next to the food.

What the law asks of a cake shed

And how ProvenBatch helps you meet each one.

Every wrapped slice is PPDS, even from an honesty box.

On every plan

Print the label from the batch the night before: ingredients in weight order, allergens emphasised, a date and a batch code.

Allergen information has to sit in the eyeline when nobody is there to ask.

On every plan

Print allergen cards, eight to an A4 sheet, with an “Ask us about allergens” notice. A QR menu is there if you want it; the card still works on its own.

A price belongs on the card next to the pack.

On every plan

Stall cards carry the price you set on the product, printed with the allergen information, ready to put out with the slices.

Each batch keeps what was printed and from which packs.

On every plan

A batch code on a slice traces to a real record: the date, the packs and the label as printed.

The regulator's own guidance: FSA: allergen labelling changes for bakers.

Questions

Does an honesty box still need labels?

Yes. Wrapping the food before anyone buys it is what makes it PPDS, not whether you are standing there. The label goes on before the slice goes in the box.

Can I change my business type later?

Yes. Settings holds the type, and you can change it. The tools you already use stay visible; anything newly relevant is offered, and you choose what to switch on.

Does ProvenBatch make my labels legally compliant?

No software can promise that, and you should be wary of any that does. Legal responsibility for a food label always rests with the food business operator: you. What ProvenBatch does is make it much harder to get wrong: labels are derived from your real data, uncertain batches are blocked rather than guessed, and everything is recorded so you can prove what you did.
