The warning on the sweet, from the pack you boiled

A tray of fudge is a short recipe and a long label: colours that have to name the colour, liquorice and sweetener statements, and a net quantity once the pack is 50 g or more. Loose sweets still need a unit price. The allergen duty is the same as any other packed food.

What the law asks of a confectioner

And how ProvenBatch helps you meet each one.

Colour warnings and sweetener statements travel from the pack onto the label.

On every plan

The label is built from the packs that went in the boil, so a colour or sweetener declared on the pack is declared on your sweet.

A pack of 50 g or more needs its net quantity.

On every plan

Set the packed weight on the product; it prints on the label with the ingredients list.

A batch code on the bag traces to the boil.

On every plan

Each batch keeps the date, the packs and the printed label.

Packed weight checks sit with the batch.

Pro

Record what the bag weighed against what the label claimed, on Pro.

The regulator's own guidance: GOV.UK: introduction to allergen labelling for PPDS food.

Questions

Do I have to name the colour?

If the pack you used names a colour that needs a warning, that warning belongs on your label. ProvenBatch carries the pack’s declaration through, so you are not retyping it.

Can I change my business type later?

Yes. Settings holds the type, and you can change it. The tools you already use stay visible; anything newly relevant is offered, and you choose what to switch on.

Does ProvenBatch make my labels legally compliant?

No software can promise that, and you should be wary of any that does. Legal responsibility for a food label always rests with the food business operator: you. What ProvenBatch does is make it much harder to get wrong: labels are derived from your real data, uncertain batches are blocked rather than guessed, and everything is recorded so you can prove what you did.
