The week’s meals, labelled before they leave

Meals packed for collection are PPDS and need the full label. Meals sold online or by phone and delivered are distance selling: allergen information before the customer buys and again when the food arrives. Use by, storage and reheating sit on the pack. Vacuum-pack controls are a process you record, not a label line.

What the law asks of a meal prep business

And how ProvenBatch helps you meet each one.

Meals packed for collection are PPDS and need the full ingredients list.

On every plan

Add the week’s meals to one batch and print every label set together, each with a Use by, storage wording and a batch code.

Meals sold online need the ingredients list before purchase.

On every plan

Copy for a listing is the same derived label you print on the pack, so the listing and the box cannot disagree.

A Use by, storage and reheating line sit on the pack.

On every plan

Set them once per product; they pre-fill every batch and stay switchable when a run needs different handling.

A batch code traces the meal back to the packs you used.

On every plan

Each batch keeps what was printed and from which packs, so a code on a box is a real record.

The regulator's own guidance: GOV.UK: introduction to allergen labelling for PPDS food.

Set up for a meal prep business from day one

Every business gets labels from the batch, the allergen matrix and cards, food safety records, and lot codes that trace.

For Meal prep, these tools start on: Orders and customers, Hot food, Selling online.

Held until you switch them on: Trade and wholesale, Markets and events, Process readings and weights, Opened packs, Selling other makers' food, Meat and approved premises, Gift and selection boxes.

Which plan

Planned pricing after the beta. Meal prep businesses usually want Standard (£19) for orders, accounts and roles; a bigger kitchen takes Pro (£39) for more seats and the food safety diary.

Questions

Is a delivered meal PPDS?

A meal packed for collection is PPDS. A meal sold online or by phone and delivered is distance selling: the ingredients list before the customer buys, and again when it arrives. The same derived label covers both.

Can I change my business type later?

Yes. Settings holds the type, and you can change it. The tools you already use stay visible; anything newly relevant is offered, and you choose what to switch on.

Does ProvenBatch make my labels legally compliant?

No software can promise that, and you should be wary of any that does. Legal responsibility for a food label always rests with the food business operator: you. What ProvenBatch does is make it much harder to get wrong: labels are derived from your real data, uncertain batches are blocked rather than guessed, and everything is recorded so you can prove what you did.
